Having a tasty and sweet creamer in your coffee is a delicious little treat, and for some, it’s a necessity.
It’s super easy to make a simple, yet delicious, creamer at home and customize it to your exact preference and liking.
Sweet Cream Coffee Creamer
Our sweet cream coffee creamer recipe only uses three ingredients. You only need a mason jar to make it and it’s super easy to modify with different flavors as we’ve done with our vanilla, hazelnut, and pumpkin spice coffee creamer recipes.
Coffee creamers really only need two things – cream and sweetness. We like our creamers to be super rich and thick, so we use both half & half and heavy cream.
You can easily substitute these with your preferred cream, whether that’s alternative milk like almond, oat, or coconut, or just use the rest of the whole milk left in the fridge.
Secondly, the sweetener. We love the rich smoothness that comes with sweetened condensed milk and the way it’s already liquified, making it super easy to just mix into the creamy base.
However, if you wanted to use plain old sugar, you can always pull out your saucepan and cook it down into the cream base.
What You’ll Need
- Mason Jar
- Lid
- Label
The easiest way to make creamer is simply prepping it in a 16 oz or bigger mason jar (or even a clean and sanitized used pasta jar), putting the lid on, and shaking to combine.
You’ll want to label your jar, making note of the expiration dates on the cream (usually a homemade creamer will last 7-10 days in the fridge).
List of Ingredients
- 1.5 cups half & half
- 0.5 cup heavy whipping cream
- 7 oz sweetened condensed milk
Add the half & half, heavy cream, and condensed milk to the mason jar. Secure the lid tightly and shake until well combined. Store in the fridge and shake before each use.
This easy, one-step coffee creamer recipe makes a fantastic Sweet Cream that’s delicious on its own or can easily transform into a flavorful creamer that can be enjoyed in any cup of coffee!
FAQ
Is Homemade Coffee Creamer Cheaper?
Yes, you can make more for less. Although purchasing three different ingredients may be more upfront, you’re getting more than you would be buying an average 24-ounce coffee creamer that rings in around $4.
With one 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk, you can make up to 36 ounces of creamer, and with one flavor extract purchase you can make multiple batches of creamer.
So yes, making your own creamer will, on average, cost you less.
Which Is Better – Half & Half or Milk?
Half & half is equal parts whole milk and cream. This means it is denser and richer, making a delicious creamer.
Milk will make a less creamy and rich creamer, but still works great for a coffee creamer base. We really enjoy a two parts half & half and one-part heavy whipping cream combo to get the smoothest, richest creamer possible!
What Are The Best Dairy-Free Coffee Creamer Alternatives?
If you’re looking to make this recipe dairy free, there are lots of options. From oat or almond milk to swapping it out for Lactaid, you can easily substitute any of your favorite dairy alternatives for the half & half and heavy whipping cream.
The main element to consider is the consistency and thickness of the alternative creamer. Heavy whipping cream is top of the line in richness and thickness, but you can find close alternatives like Silks Dairy Free Heavy Whipping Cream, Planet Oat Cream, or almond extra creamy milk.
Just be sure to choose one that is not already sweetened if you want to add your own sweetener.
Can You Add Flavors To Coffee Creamers?
Yes, adding a teaspoon or two of a flavor extract is a great way to make a delicious blended treat for your coffee!
Some coffee creamer classics are – vanilla, hazelnut, peppermint, or pumpkin spice.
You can get creative by mixing flavors too for some fun combos: Mocha Peppermint (add some chocolate sauce and peppermint extract!), Almond Joy (chocolate and almond extract), blueberry, French vanilla (hazelnut and vanilla), and lots more!
Get creative and have fun!
