What is a cappuccino?
A cappuccino is probably one of the most well-known coffee drinks available at every coffee house you’ll walk into. It originates from Italy and includes equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foamed milk.
This ratio is the only difference between a cappuccino and the other famous coffee drink, the latte.
So let’s get started with an easy at-home cappuccino recipe to give your Ninja DualBrew or Coffee Bar a spin.
What You’ll Need
Ingredients
- 3-4 Ninja Single-Serve Scoops of your favorite ground coffee
- one cup of milk or milk substitute divided equally
- your Ninja DualBrew or Ninja Coffee Bar System
- a 12-ounce cup
- a built-in milk frother
Step One:
Whether I’m making cold-brew coffee, iced lattes, or any specialty brews, I always start by preparing my Ninja Coffee Maker. First, make sure the coffee machine is plugged in and powered on. Then, fill the water reservoir with filtered water.
Add 3-4 Ninja Single-Serve Scoops of ground coffee directly into the brew basket.
Did you know that with the Ninja DualBrew, you have the option to use K cups instead of ground coffee? You’ll still get that rich coffee concentrate from the specialty brew setting.
Step Two:
Let’s get our milk ready.
Fill one 12-ounce cup with 1/2 cup of milk or milk substitute. I’ve decided to use oat milk today.
Microwave your mug for 45-60 seconds to heat the milk until it’s steaming.
Place your cup directly onto the warming plate or single-cup platform.
Step Three:
Time to brew the espresso. The Ninja Coffee Bar and DualBrew have a specialty brew setting that delivers four ounces of concentrated coffee directly into your mug.
Select the Specialty Brew button and be sure the drip stop is open. Ninja Coffee makers have a variety of brew sizes, and the Specialty Brew setting will dispense four ounces of rich, delicious espresso made from your favorite coffee grounds directly into your cup of coffee.
Did you know that the Ninja DualBrew allows you to use K-cups as well as ground coffee? Just put the pod adapter into the brew basket and use any k-cup you like.
Step Four:
Now we’re ready to froth. Frothing the milk gives us that delicious, creamy taste characteristic of a cappuccino. Whether you’re using the built-in milk frother or Easy Milk Frother, you’ll have frothy milk in seconds.
COFFEE BAR: Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of milk into your Easy Milk Frother and press the hand-pump frother about 15 times.
DUAL BREW: Hold 1/2 cup of milk under the built-in milk frother and submerge the whisk just below the surface. Press and hold the top button for 30-45 seconds to froth milk.
You can also use a handheld milk frother to create the frothy milk you love.
Pour the milk foam over the top.
QUICK TIP: Always remember to hold your cup of milk under the whisk to catch any drips as you take it to the sink.
Step Five:
Enjoy your cappuccino!
Okay, maybe that didn’t need that step by itself, because how could you possibly resist enjoying this homemade cappuccino? It pairs perfectly with breads & bakery goods.
What else can you do?
Try some of these ideas if you want more than a simple cappuccino recipe.
Make it an iced cappuccino.
Start by placing ice in your mug and skip steaming the milk. You can still use the Specialty Brew Button or switch to the Ice Brew Mode. Even better, start with cold brew coffee and add your milk and foam.
In terms of brew size, select a travel mug.
Quick Tip: Freeze any leftover coffee you might have and use it as ice cubes.
Make it a mocha cappuccino.
Add cocoa powder and sugar into the milk before steaming. You’ll love the hints of chocolate flavor that make mocha so irresistible.
Make it a holiday drink.
I love to substitute my milk with thick and creamy egg nog whenever the holiday season rolls around. But, of course, I always make it cold, and I top it with fresh ground nutmeg.
Make it anything you want!
You can add any syrups or flavors you want to make a delicious cappuccino in the comfort of your home.
Happy Caffeinating!
