You know what could really help you sort through your important issues? Orange mocha frappuccinos! At least, that’s what Derek Zoolander and his friends thought, anyway. And the drink really seemed to help put them in a great mood (until the good times were cut short thanks to a gasoline fight accident) so why wouldn’t it do the same for you?
We know, we know. Chocolate and orange are unique partners, but before you rule it out, hear us out.
AN ORANGE MOCHA WHAT?
The iconic orange mocha frappuccino made its debut in the 2001 film Zoolander starring Ben Stiller. The drink was made up by screenwriters specifically for the movie, but the fictional drink piqued so much interest that viewers were dying to know what it would really taste like.
They asked, and Starbucks Coffee delivered. The coffee shop franchise released their own take on the drink in the early 2000s, but unfortunately, the drink is no longer available. (Although, some say it can still be ordered from Starbucks’s secret menu…)
But no worries. There’s hope for those who are still curious about what this chocolatey-citrus coffee drink tastes like. You may not be able to purchase it in a coffee shop, but you can make it in the comfort of your own home. And we’ve got just the recipe to help you do it!
MAKE A HOMEMADE ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO
YOU’LL NEED:
- 1 cup of chilled brewed coffee or a shot of espresso
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of chocolate milk
- 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup
- Zest and juice of 1 large orange
- 1-2 cups of ice
- Whipped cream
- A blender
THE RECIPE:
Step 1:
Start by adding ice, coffee or espresso, and chocolate chips to your blender and pulse a few times. The mixture should begin to smooth out as you blend it, but don’t worry if it’s still a bit lumpy.
Because we’re making a cold drink, you’ll want to use cold coffee, so either brew your drip coffee or espresso shot beforehand and leave it in the fridge for a few minutes, or use cold brew coffee instead.
Step 2:
Then, add chocolate milk, heavy cream, chocolate syrup, and orange juice to the frappuccino mixture, and blend until it’s smooth and creamy.
Step 3:
Pour the frappuccino into a tall glass, and top it off with a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and use a few sprinkles of orange zest as a garnish.
