As much as we love buying a cup of joe from the local café, we at Roasty are suckers for homemade coffeehouse drinks. It’s fun to pull out our brewers and make our own renditions of the shops’ menu items.
The toasted marshmallow latte is the latest of our at-home brewing endeavors. We’ve seen this and a few other marshmallow-flavored beverages at some of the coffeehouses we’ve visited, so we decided to try to whip up our own version.
And trust — it didn’t disappoint!
Is Toasted Marshmallow Good in Drinks?
If you’ve ever sat around a bonfire making s’mores, you know how delightful toasted marshmallows are. The sweet, sugary taste of the marshmallow and the smokiness of the fire — can you imagine a better duo?
The flavor profile not only pairs beautifully with that of chocolate and graham crackers but with certain drinks, too.
In this instance, we’re talking about coffee, but just FYI toasted marshmallow lends its flavor well to both non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails!
You probably want proof of that statement now — toasted marshmallow tastes good in coffee drinks — and we have it. See our iced toasted marshmallow latte recipe below!

How to Make a Toasted Marshmallow Iced Latte
You’ll Need
- 2 shots of espresso
- 1 tablespoon toasted marshmallow syrup
- about 1/4 cup milk or creamer of choice
- whipped cream or toasted marshmallows for topping (optional)
The Process
Step One
First, use an espresso machine to pull two shots of rich, strong coffee. Set this joe aside so it can cool; since you’re making an iced beverage, you’ll want to give the espresso time to cool off a bit.
No regular espresso machine? No problem! The Moka pot and AeroPress coffee makers brew a coffee concentrate that makes a suitable espresso substitute in espresso-based drinks. Plus, they come at much lower costs.
So, if you brew on a budget but still want to make worthwhile homemade lattes, investing in one (or both!) of these tools might be a good idea.
Step Two
The next step in concocting this sweet drink is pouring some toasted marshmallow-flavored simple syrup into a tall glass with a few ice cubes.
Set that aside; you’ll come back to it, of course, but there are other steps in the latte recipe to complete first.
Step Three
Pour milk or creamer into a cup or frothing pitcher. We used a combination of unsweetened plain and sweetened vanilla almond milk, but feel free to use whatever you typically pour into your cups of coffee.
Next, use a handheld milk frother or immersion blender to create foamy, frothy milk.
Step Four
Grab the glass filled with ice cubes and marshmallow-flavored simple syrup. Pour the freshly frothed milk into it before topping the mixture with the espresso shots you brewed earlier. Stir the drink to combine all the flavors, and you’re finished!
You can savor this coffee treat as it is or you can satisfy your sweet tooth further by topping the finished product with a dollop of whipped cream or a handful of mini marshmallows.
Shake Up This Latte Recipe
A homemade toasted marshmallow latte is a dream; high-quality coffee beans, milk, and flavored syrup make it taste as good as the one you’d order from a coffee shop.
But, like any other beverage, there’s room for experimentation.
Start playing around with this drink by adding creamy chocolate sauce to the mix. Top it off with graham cracker crumbles, and your toasted marshmallow latte has transformed into the perfect fall drink: the s’mores latte!
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I get toasted marshmallow simple syrup?
Some well-stocked grocery stores may carry a toasted marshmallow flavor in or near their coffee departments.
However, if you can’t find any at your local Target or Walmart, check the place you likely rely on for the rest of your shopping: the internet!
Well-known brands like Monin and Torani have marshmallow syrups you can purchase. However, if you’re uninterested in either of those brands’ offerings, a quick Google search reveals plenty of other products you can choose from.
Can you make a hot toasted marshmallow latte?
Yes, you can! We outlined the steps for serving this homemade espresso recipe over ice, but with a few adjustments, you can sip it as a hot coffee drink.
To go the hot coffee route, you’ll need to skip the ice cubes and add warm, steamed milk instead of cold milk foam. Beyond adding warm milk and leaving the ice cubes in the freezer, the rest of the recipe remains the same.
Does Starbucks have toasted marshmallow syrup?
Occasionally, toasted marshmallow syrup is an ingredient in Starbucks’s seasonal menu items, like fall 2022’s toasted marshmallow hot chocolate.
However, at the time of this article’s writing, the flavored syrup isn’t a permanent fixture on the coffeehouse franchise’s menu.
Make Marshmallow Part of Your Coffee Routine
Toasted marshmallow syrup-centric recipes like this one are perfect for any coffee lover who longs for something sweet in their cup in the morning.
Even better is that, even without the addition of chocolate sauce or graham cracker crumbles, it tastes reminiscent of s’mores — no campfire or melted messes required.
